Good old George Bailey

In the 1946 holiday classic film, It’s A Wonderful Life, there are many lessons for life. George Bailey allows us to see the good that is in all men – even in each of us. One phrase that has always resonated with me comes from the main character, George Bailey. When talking with his younger brother, our everyman, George, shares the three most exciting sounds in the world – an anchor chain, plane motors, and train whistles. Just thinking of these sounds makes me smile and reach for my passport.

Those words have influenced my life, from the first time I heard them. I love to travel; to meet new people; to try new foods; to see new sights; to hear new language. I love it all. On my resume, under Hobbies/Interests, I list travel -- right there, along with sports and reading. Of the three, travel may hold the number one spot. Yes, even above sports.

Many people have asked if I keep a diary or journal. No. I guess I have never seen the need. Not that there is anything wrong with you, if you do. I just enjoy living the experience or thinking the thought. I didn’t see a reason to re-live or re-think. More recently, I have been asked if I write a blog. No. I have been quite sure no one would care to read the ramblings of this oft road-weary recruiter.

So, here I am – writing a blog. Why now? I have absolutely no idea. I still hold to the idea that no one will care of my ramblings. BUT, now I do think that others may be interested in my experiences. If they like my experiences, I suppose they will suffer my opinions and thoughts.

I hope you will join me in my rambling – both geographic and philosophical. Share your thoughts and comments. I want to learn of your experiences, as well. Oh, no, I don’t want to know your thoughts any more than you want to know mine.

I look forward to our interactions. I will share, as I have experiences. Keeping a tight “train schedule” for this blog would certainly be appropriate. But, that won’t happen.

See you on the jet bridge.
